The Infant Department of the International School provides its pupils with an exciting, engaging and nurturing introduction to school life.
The Infant Department has four classes, all based at Cherry Hinton Hall. The Kindergarten Class welcomes pupils from the age of 3 years old, Caspian Class (National Curriculum Reception, pupils, aged 4-5), Coral Class (National Curriculum Year 1, pupils aged 5-6) and Caribbean Class (National Curriculum Year 2, pupils aged 6-7).
We have on average 14 children in our classes with a teacher and an assistant. We firmly believe that children will learn effectively when they are ready to do so and when they are in the right environment. We introduce formal academic work gradually, believing that children really do learn a great deal through play, through using their imagination, learning to share and play happily with their classmates. The level of achievement our children reach is very impressive.
Spanish and French are taught to all pupils from Reception upwards and anyone who has visited the school during these lessons will verify how lively and exciting these sessions are!
We get to know our pupils extremely well which enables us to monitor each child’s educational development, ensuring they feel challenged and successful.
Close communication is maintained with parents via email, reading record diary, written reports and regular parental consultation. Our teachers are friendly and accessible and will always try and spare time to chat or make an appointment to meet with parents if a longer discussion is necessary.
