In English, the children will begin a unit of work on persuasive writing, focusing on adverts and argument. They will be learning to evaluate adverts for their impact, appeal and honesty, identifying key features used to persuade people to buy products. Students will be learning to use alternative words and expressions which are more accurate and interesting than the common choice, for example, through using a thesaurus and examining powerful adjectives and adverbs. They will be making notes to plan their own writing of adverts and learning to organise their writing in order to present information clearly.
