In English, the children will continue to write in their Journals on a weekly basis. This will be done every Monday as a homework task and handed in on Tuesday morning, please. The instructions for this task have been copied and pasted into their Journals for your reference.

The class is continuing with their non-fiction unit on reports using the subject of bikes and cycling, the city of Cambridge and dinosaurs. During this unit, the children are developing skills of researching information using books, index and contents pages, alphabetical order, CD ROMs and the Internet. They are learning to highlight key information and write their findings in note form, then full sentences in their own words, using the past and present tense. They are learning about the key features of report writing and how to present their reports in the form of a poster, leaflet or book. After half term, the children will undertake a story-writing unit and work with the rest of the Junior classes on producing a school magazine.

In Maths, children will be covering mental calculations for addition, data handling, place value, paper & pencil procedures for addition, measures, shape and space.

In I.P.C. for the first half of the term, the children will be studying types of dinosaur and information about their discovery, including fossils and timelines. They will make models and prepare a class display. Study includes a trip to the Sedgwick Museum.

Sport
Outdoor sports which is on Wednesdays is cricket for the first half of term. We will turn to tennis for the second half of term. Students are welcome to bring in their own rackets or bats if they wish to use them. Please ensure your child wears the correct shoes, being plimsolls or trainers. We may need to request that raincoats are in school to enable us to continue the lessons! Indoor Sports is on Tuesday for Aegean and this term the students are studying dance.

In Spanish, we are covering birthdays, months of the year, going shopping, eating at a restaurant, foods and drink.

In Art, we are looking at dinosaurs, reinforcing the I.P.C. Topic this term. We are studying at bones, prehistoric paintings and patterns. In sewing, we are making purses and sewing with felt.

I.C.T. - The children are being introduced to basic online search applications and Google maps/BBC/Weather/Local News websites relevant to their daily lives.

Drama - We are about to start filming the play “Ali Baba” which we rehearsed last term. Next, we will be starting a new play that we hope to perform to the infants outside later this term.
